Online marketing strategy
What exactly does this mean and do I really need it?
A strategy from our perspective at MNG is basically the process of understanding where you are, where you want to be and what needs to happen in between to get you there. And as simple as that sounds, it really is what a strategy encompasses.
Unfortunately so many individuals and companies decide to jump a few steps ahead and just get stuck into whatever the most topical subject might be within the market. What tends to happen at this point is lots of activity and very little results. One outcome that inevitably occurs is that ‘ we tried online marketing and it didn’t work’. The reality being that you may have tried a small aspect of one piece of the online marketing puzzle and failed! Many times we have seen companies undertaking pieces of the jigsaw and watched as departments within that same company work against each other, seemingly oblivious to what they are doing to each other,
In our mind, strategy is planning. We are avid mind mappers. The mindmap attached to this post is the planning for this sequence of blog posts! And we find that mind maps are a great way of getting your initial ideas and thoughts into a format that you can then add to easily and then use. The human mind was never designed to learn in lists. So when we attend courses or seminars and make pages and pages of notes, we often do nothing further with them. This is because we subconsciously know that we are not going to take that information on board. Mind maps allow you to put the information down as you think it. Then as the idea develops you go back to points and expand on them. You don’t have to scribble thing out or try to fit your writing between your existing notes. What you end up with, is a working document that can form the unified direction all your subsequent activity will work towards.
In other words, having a strategy in place provides you with alignment. Everyone knows what the end goal is, they know where they are at the moment and each; department, manager, supervisor, employee, person knows exactly what role they are playing and what they are responsible for.
As some one vey wise once said, ‘let’s start from the beginning, a very good place to start’. If you don’t know where you are how are you going to get where you are going? If you’ve downloaded the white paper then you may well have already seen the best way to establish where you currently are online. If you haven’t, I highly recommend you download it – www.maximumnetgain.com and a pop over should appear. This document expands on the above and also starts to talk about a couple of the pieces of the jigsaw. But so what right? Well the jigsaw forms the basis of the strategy, understanding what the pieces are and how they go together allow you to create the ‘picture on the box’. Miss out a piece or put them in the wrong place and the picture isn’t going to look quite right.
